Replication Data for : \"Recruitment boosts participation and transfers route information during collective migration in ants\"
Collective behaviors are widespread across the animal kingdom and often crucial to the persistence of social groups. These behaviors emerge from local interactions among individuals, leading to coordinated actions at the group level. When carrying out collective tasks, task participants guide naïve group members to a valuable resource through recruitment behaviours. Recruitment can improve group efficiency if recruited individuals transfer information about completing the task to others (hereafter referred to as information transfer). Task participants can activate others to join the task through recruitment behaviors (which we term activation). In this study, we investigated these two processes using the rock ant Temnothorax rugatulus as a model system. We focused on two recruitment behaviors–social carrying and reverse tandem running– used during nest emigration. To test for information transfer, we focused on whether followers learn specific routes from leaders. This repository contains the data used to analyze if followers learn route information from leaders. Each route csv file corresponds to one route, with two columns which denote x-y co-ordinates for that route. All csvs contain route information except the files that start with \"key_*\" which contain information about how the routes are distributed across colonies for each recruitment behaviour tested. The route file names follow the below notation - Carrying recruitment route: carry_*.csv Carrying follower route: carry_follower_*.csv RTR homebound route: rtr_homebound_*.csv RTR homebound follower route: rtr_follower_home_*.csv RTR target bound route: rtr_targetbound_*.csv RTR target bound follower route: rtr_follower_target_*.csv Each recruitment and follower route are paired, and numbered indices denote which routes are paired.
