To characterize the canine genome in multiple breeds, we sequenced one dog from each of 12 breeds spanning the range of canine morphology and breed histories: Chow Chow, Saluki, Siberian Husky, Beagle, Bulldog, Chihuahua, Flatcoated Retriever, Great Dane, Mastiff, Pekingese, Scottish Terrier, and Toy Poodle. The first three breeds have been identified in previous studies as diverging early from the main phylogeny of domestic dogs.
