In social and educational settings, little is known about whether learning new words—in particular, the memory and recall of such words—differs when teachers’ faces are racially similar to or different from those of learners. In this study, we asked Chinese-English bilinguals to identify real (Experiment 1) or pseudo (Experiment 2) words in Chinese and English that had been learned when preceded by Chinese or Caucasian faces.
