Faecal carriage of resistant Enterobacteriaceae in children

Faecal samples were consecutively collected from cohorts of children with cystic fibrosis and cancer and from a control group of healthy children during 2000-2008. A direct MIC-gradient strip method was used to detect resistant enterobacteria in the faecal samples. Multi-drug resistant E. coli isolates were whole genome sequenced on an Illumina platform and WGS data were used for in silico typing and to detect resistance determinants. The whole genome sequence short reads from each of the E. coli isolates are submitted to ENA. The project coordinator is Per Kristian Knudsen, Oslo University Hospital, Norway.
