Vermillion Snapper (Rhomboplites aurorubens, Family Lutjanidae) is widely distributed in deeper waters (> 300 m) of the western Atlantic Ocean from North America through Brazil. It supports both a large commercial and popular recreational fishery. We sequenced a chromosomal-level genome assembly based on PacBio long reads, Illumina short reads, and Hi-C data. The genome has a size of 987 Mb, with a scaffold N50 size of 4.1 Mb, organized onto 24 chromosomes. The vermillion snapper genome will offer valuable information that enhances our understanding of fish populations, informs comparative genomic studies across fish species, and supports fishery management.
