It provides tax credits to investors who make equity investments in certified Community Development Entities (CDEs), which in turn invest in eligible projects. To qualify for NMTC investment, a project must typically be located in a Low-Income Community (LIC) as defined by the U.S. Treasury. These areas are determined by census tract data and must meet at least one of the following: Poverty rate of 20% or more, or Median family income at or below 80% of the area median.
