The Effect of Fucoidan on Gut Microbiota

Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection contributes to the development of diverse gastric diseases. Successful eradication of H. pylori has dramatically reduced the recurrence of peptic ulcers and the incidence of atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer. However, eradication with antibiotic treatment causes alteration of the human gut microbiota and decreased gut barrier function. Current studies have proved the effect of prebiotics on the regulation of the gut microbiota. Still,the functional role of prebiotic preparations on the H. pylori eradication treatment and its impact on gut microbiota remains contentious. In this study, the standard quadruple therapy assisted by fucoidan,was used to eradicate H.pylori.To investigate the effectiveness of fucoidan in the eradication of H.pylori and its effect on the regulation of gut microbiota.Use prospective research methods. Nighty cases of H. pylori-positive patients were randomized to standard quadruple therapy group (SQ Group), standard quadruple therapy + fucoidan combination group (SF Group), fucoidan + standard quadruple sequential group (FS Group). Fecal samples were collected on week 0 and week 6, respectively. The third fecal sample was collected at week 12 if the FS group patients continued to add standard quadruple therapy after taking fucoidan. Using 16s rDNA sequencing technique to detect gut microbiota changes before and after eradication of H. pylori.
