Riverbanks as dynamic litter reservoirs: A global review of macrolitter quantification, sources, and environmental processes

This repository contains the supporting data and reproducibility files for the systematic review by Ergas & Thiel (2026) on riverbank macrolitter research. The review synthesizes 103 peer-reviewed publications to assess methodological heterogeneity, quantitative patterns, source attribution, and environmental drivers of anthropogenic litter (AL) accumulation on riverbanks worldwide.

The deposit includes the complete screening matrix documenting the evaluation of all the selection process, the structured extraction table with all coded variables for the 103 included publications, and the calculation file supporting the quantitative analyses reported in the manuscript.

All files are provided to ensure full reproducibility of the screening process, data extraction, and analyses presented in the associated publication.
