Interactions between symbiotic bacteria and their insect hosts influence the evolution and ecology of the both partners. Characterizing the genes and/or gene families that support this symbiosis will lead to a more complete understanding of these interactions. These data suggest that adaptations in the genomes of the insect hosts support bacterial symbioses.
