Unravelling the tumorigenesis mechanisms of oncocytic cell tumors: discoveries from a comparative omics studies

Transcriptome analysis of thyroid tumors from frozen tissue sections. Overall design: We performed an extensive comparative analysis of transcriptomic between oncocytic cell tumors (5 oncocytic adenoma-OA and 7 oncocytic carcinoma -OCA) and mitochondrion-rich neoplasms (2 oncocytic subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma-O-PTC and 4 low-risk neoplasms with oncocytic morphology), irrespective of their biological behavior. Our focus was to explore molecular distinctions within these two tumor categories characterized by oncocytic morphology.
