XMM-Newton and Swift Joint Monitoring of a Tidal Disruption Event Candidate

We have discovered an increasing but highly variable Xray activity in thedirection of a small, but optically extended, object that we believe to be agalaxy at redshift about 0.45. Analysis to within the limits of the current datasuggest that the Xray activity is most likely due to the tidal disruption of agiant star with a long rising phase by the supermassive black hole within thegalaxy. Confirmation of such an event would be unprecedented and indicate a newclass of highenergy outbursts. We propose to have a joint monitoring of such arare event with XMMNewton and Swift immediately, which is required to measurethe energetics and understand the physics behind the extreme environment of suchan event. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
