16s rRNA gene amplicon dataset of microbiome of planarians

Microbiome of freshwater planarians: composition, diversity and variabilityA profound knowledge of the composition and diversity of the microbiome and the factors affecting these properties is key to fully comprehending host-microorganism interactions. However, understanding the nature and implications of these specific interactions during variable conditions is complex and challenging. Here, we investigated microbiome variation during different conditions using the freshwater planarian Schmidtea mediterranea, an invertebrate model for developmental and regeneration biology to gain insight into microbiome composition, diversity and variability. This study provides a solid basis for future research focusing on bacterial functionality in planarians and other invertebrates.
