1,4-Dioxane is one of the most common harmful synthetic substance of industrial wastewater, which is treated using activated sludge system. However, the diversity of the microorganism involved in this degradation is largely unknown. In this study, we identified the 1,4-dioxane degraders by ultra-high-sensitivity stable isotope probing of rRNA (rRNA-SIP) in an activated sludge.
