"Die Christen warten vor dem Missionshaus in Mbaga auf ihr Essen. Denn es ist Sitte, dass bei jedem Tauffest die Christen der betr. Station Schafe oder ein Rind schlachten, um sich und den Gästen einen Leckerbissen zu bereiten." ("The Christians waiting for their food in front of the mission house in Mbaga. For it is the custom that at every baptism the Christians of the concerned station slaughter sheep or a cow or ox [lit.: an exemplar of cattle] to prepare a tidbit for themselves and the guests."). A crowd wearing European dresses or 'kanzu', many of the women and children dressed in cloths. Next to the clay pots on the left three Europeans. Building thatched with plant fiber. The steeple on the right.; Wilhelm Guth (1888-1980), from Zeiskam in the Rhineland Palatinate, studied commerce before joining the Leipzig Mission as a pastor. He served in Gonja (southern Pare) from 1913 to 1917 and from 1927 to 1938. He left a large number of photographs, mostly taken by himself but including some by members of his family or fellow missionaries.
