Mozambique has made substantial progress in reducing malaria burden over the past decade. However, recent increases in malaria cases in some urban settings highlight emerging challenges for sustained control. This study investigated a localized rise in malaria cases within a neighborhood of Maputo City. Household visits were conducted among individuals with confirmed malaria infection. Entomological surveys were performed to characterize vector presence and potential larval habitats. Adult mosquitoes were collected indoors, while immature stages (larvae and pupae) were sampled from water-holding containers and nearby permanent aquatic habitats. The predominant species identified was Anopheles funestus sensu stricto, a well-established and efficient malaria vector. Both immature and adult stages of this species were detected in close proximity to affected households, indicating active breeding and indoor vector presence. No evidence of imported malaria cases was identified, suggesting that transmission is occurring locally within this urban environment.
