The CSIRO Crown-of-Thorn Starfish Detection Dataset is a large-scale underwater image dataset developed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) of Australia, aiming to improve the efficiency of coral reef ecosystem monitoring and management via machine learning and AI technologies. This dataset contains over 35,000 images that record outbreak events of Crown-of-Thorn Starfish in coral reef areas, with data sourced from in-situ monitoring conducted at the Australian Great Barrier Reef. During data collection, GoPro Hero9 cameras were used, and the Manta Tow method was adopted to ensure high resolution and authenticity of the data. This dataset is primarily intended for research and development of algorithms that can accurately and timely identify Crown-of-Thorn Starfish, so as to support ecologically sustainable coral reef management strategies.
