Microbial diversity of marine biofilms revealed by full-length 16S rRNA genes

In this article, we hypothesized that by relying on more advanced PacBio sequencing, more species that could not be detected by Illumina sequencing can be discovered in the biofilm. To this end, we put artificial materials in the subtidal waters near Huangdao who obtained sufficient biofilm samples after two weeks. After extracting the DNA of the biofilm, PacBio sequencing was used to compare the microbial community structure in the seawater and the biofilm, and it was discovered that the difference between the microbial community structure in the seawater and the microbial envelope was very significant. And there are some differences in the results after using different sequencing strategies to analyze the same sample. PacBio sequencing can detect more biodiversity and more endemic groups.
