资源简介:
In June 1986 the Bureau of Reclamation awarded Dames & Moore a contract for historical archaeology studies as part of the mitigation program for the Regulatory Storage Division (Plan 6) of the Central Arizona Project. Final reports on these studies are being issued in three volumes under the title, The Historical Archaeology of Dam Construction Camps in Central Arizona. Volume 1: Synthesis (1994) summarizes the entire project, Volume 3 (1986) details laboratory methods, and Volume 2 (1994) contains technical site reports for the seven locales studied. This volume, Volume 2C, contains technical site reports for the sites along the Salt and Verde rivers associated with the construction of all major dams on these rivers other than Roosevelt Dam. The prologue provides an ovetview of the project and discusses the study goals and methods. Chapter 1 describes and interprets the Mormon Flat Dam construction camp site. Chapter 2 describes and interprets the Horse Mesa Dam construction camp site. Chapter 3 discusses three sites in the Stewart Mountain Dam area. Chapter 4 describes and interprets two sites that are the remnants of the Bartlett Dam construction camp. Chapter 5 focuses on the Horseshoe Dam construction camp, but also briefly documents the remnants of a house on a nearby historic homestead. The epilogue summarizes the nature of the archaeological and historical records regarding the studied construction camps, and briefly compares and contrasts these 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s temporary construction communities.
