资源简介:
Background: The purpose of this study was to increase access to COVID-19 testing for people who inject drugs, a population with limited testing access and heightened vulnerability to SARS-CoV-2 transmission and severe illness. The study built on an existing partnership with HIV Alliance, an Oregon-based nonprofit that supports individuals living with HIV/AIDS and conducts prevention work.
Materials/Methods: The study embedded a COVID-19 testing program within HIV Alliance’s Syringe Services Programs (SSPs) and paired it with a brief motivational enhancement intervention. These testing services were delivered directly in SSP settings to reach participants already engaged in harm reduction services.
Outcome/Impact: Findings demonstrated that integrating testing and motivational support into SSPs increased reach among people who inject drugs and informed future testing and vaccination efforts in similar underserved settings.
