In this study cell free DNA from human plasma was sequenced from either septic patients (S), healthy controls (G) or post surgery non septic controls (POP) to evaluate the levels of non human cell free DNA in plasma. The detected non human cfDNA was used to establish a diagnostic approch for sepsis. This approach is realized through the introduction of a new scoring metric - the SIQ Score
