Kenya (2006): Evaluation of "Heartbeat FM" Drama Series to Promote Condom use in long-term relationship among urban youth 18-24

<p>Heartbeat FM is based on a family run radio station-branded Heartbeat FM and revolves around the lives and relationships of the family members and staff working in the station, reflecting a typical urban lifestyle that most youth emulates. Some of the key characters in the show are either local showbiz celebrities or individuals featuring regularly in advertisements. The media/radio industry is glamourised by the youth and hence the show being based in a trendy radio station added credence t o it. </p><p> The study measures levels and trends of condom use behaviors as well as hypothesized factors that influence condom use among urban 18-24 year olds. Also, the study seeks to evaluate Heartbeat FM’s effectiveness in changing attitudes related to condom use and condom use levels between August 2006 and October 2006, and provides guidance for the next and remaining seasons of the drama. </p>
