Named Entity Recognition in the CoNLL Series and the OntoNotes corpus as a related resource

The NER shared tasks organized in the Conference on Computational Natural Language Learning (CoNLL) series concerned language-independent named entity recognition with a focus on four types of named entities in the years 2002 and 2003: persons, locations, organizations and names of miscellaneous entities. Relatedly, CoNLL 2013 organized a subtask for NER in the OntoNotes corpus including 18 types of entities across 3 languages in the newswire domain. This comparison depicts the main characteristics of CoNLL w.r.t. to NER.
