This dataset contains supplementary data to a journal paper entitled: 'A mesoscopic model for inter-yarn friction'. Three pairs of yarn-yarn contact: T300J-T300J, IM7-T300J, and Eglass-T300J were performed using a CERT-UMT machine at the University of Twente. The experiments were performed to investigate the influences of the inter-yarn angle and normal force on the friction behavior of the yarns. In this experiment, the dry and wet conditions were tested. Inversely determined capillary forces are exported. The scripts used to fit the proposed model to the experimental data of the capillary force are included. The raw friction data and the dynamic coefficient of friction are provided. An anisotropic friction model was developed to accurately represent the interplay of inter-yarn angle, normal force, and capillary effects observed in the experiments. This friction model is well-suited for mesoscale simulations, such as overbraiding simulations.
