Exploring Saudi Adolescents’ Everyday Communication Practices on Social Media Platforms

This study explored how Saudi adolescents engage in everyday communication on social media platforms, highlighting the dynamic nature of their digital communication practices. Using interviews and digital artefacts, it investigates adolescents' multimodal communication practices and their participation in digital affinity spaces. The findings reveal that participants actively created expressive multimodal texts, reflecting agency, identity, and sociocultural context. Digital affinity spaces fostered their collaboration, identity development, and inclusive learning. The study offers insights into how English education in Saudi Arabia could better align with students' real-world communication by adopting more flexible, multimodal, and participatory approaches.
