<i>Torula kanvae</i> was isolated from the gut of a <i>Copris signatus</i> beetle feeding on organic waste in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Through detailed morphological and phylogenetic analyses, based on sequences of the ITS rDNA region, D1/D2 domain of the 28S rRNA gene (LSU), SSU, tef1, and RPB2 genes, we propose <i>Torula kanvae</i> as a novel species within the genus Torula. Phylogenetically, <i>T. kanvae</i> is positioned near <i>T. auatica</i>. On PDA, the colonies displayed a spreading mycelium with a raised, undulate margin, superficial but slightly effuse, nearly circular in shape. From the top, the colonies appeared dark grey in the center with a moss-green margin, while the underside exhibited a dark brown to black center with a whitish margin.
