Influenza A viruses passaged in different MDCK cell lines

Three influenza A strains, two from humans and one canine, were serially passaged in different MDCK cell lines. MDCK cells are innately heterogeneous and can also be manipulated to express different forms of influenza A's primary receptor, sialic acid. The effects of different clonal lines of MDCKs, as well as different receptor forms, on influenza A populations was examined.
