资源简介:
Overview
This dataset contains a comprehensive media scan of the Canadian press and digital media landscape from January 2019 to December 2024. The data collection was conducted as a specialized component of the MIG. PRO. project, focusing on the representation and framing of migration processes and policies in North America.
Methodology
Following a standardized methodology applied across the project’s geographical focus areas, this media scan utilizes a keyword-based extraction process (including terms such as immigration, temporary legal status, tied work permit, struggles, agriculture) from major national and regional Canadian outlets (accessible online)
The collection captures:
Article headlines and lead paragraphs.
Publication dates and source metadata.
Thematic categorization of migration-related narratives.
Research Context and Purpose
Within the broader framework of the MIG. PRO. project, this media scan—alongside other components such as policy analysis—serves as a crucial supplement to the project's core empirical research.
While the empirical data provides a direct look at the phenomena, the media and policy analysis layers are designed to:
Enhance Depth: Provide a contextual background to the qualitative and quantitative empirical findings: Italy-Canada
Comparative Dimension: Facilitate a robust comparative analysis between the Italian and Canadian contexts, highlighting differences in public discourse, political rhetoric, and legislative approaches to migration.
Triangulation: Offer a multi-dimensional perspective by cross-referencing media representations with institutional policy shifts.
Use and Access
This dataset is currently under embargo to protect the researcher’s priority of publication. Once the embargo expires, it will be available for scholarly use to foster further comparative studies on international migration narratives.
