Here, we examined the effects of different root shapes conditioned soils on Astragalus root rot disease resistance. Our results showed that root rot incidence of Astragalus was lowest on fibrous root conditioned soil. We further showed that after excluding the interference of plant species, the fibrous-rooted soybean was still more effective than the taprooted soybean in resisting Astragalus root rot. We have also shown that fibrous-rooted soybean enriches Pseudoxanthomonas in the rhizosphere of Astragalus through plant-soil feedback. Pseudoxanthomonas reduced the infestation ability of the pathogen by competing with the pathogen for iron ions
