Wood-inhabiting fungal communities of Picea jezoensis var. hondoensis deadwood

Fungal ITS1 region was sequenced by Illumina MiSeq using environmental DNA extracted from sawdust samples of Picea jezoensis var. hondoensis deadwood obtained from 6 subalpine forest sites in Japan. In total, 95 deadwood samples were analyzed. The goal of this study is to find environmental factors structuring wood-inhabiting fungal community in deadwood, from large-scale factors such as climate to fine scale factors such as deadwood size. We also evaluating effects of forest disturbance on fungal community. The results will be analyzed with the data of decay function of fungal OTUs associated with wood decay. The effects of fungal decay function on biodiversity in deadwood will also be addressed.
