Asian green mussel whole genome sequencing

The Asian green mussel, Perna viridis, is a bivalve species that is dominant in tropical and subtropical coastal areas around Asia. This species is also notorious as an invasive species expanding its distribution area to the world including North and South Americas. In addition, it is also a commercially important species as food, and also known as an important target of marine pollution researches. The objective of this study is to determine whole genome sequences of this species and construct highly-quality assembly. The sequence information of this species is expected to accelerate researches on physiological and ecological characteristics of the species and deepen the understanding of the marine ecosystems including it. The sequence information will also contribute to food sciences, environmental sciences, and toxicology.
