Home range and metabolic rates of lemon sharks

Home range and field metabolic rates estimated from acoustic telemetry tagged lemon sharks in Bimini Bahamas. Data is in summary table format. Table includes biometrics, home range size, field metabolic rate (FMR), and standard metabolic rate (SMR) for 20 lemon shark in Bimini, Bahamas. Units are indicated in column titles. Sharks were tagged with acoustic transmitters that were equipped with acceleration sensors. Shark movements and body acceleration were remotely monitored from April to December 2019 via a network of 60 receivers. Individual home ranges were estimated as 95% KUDs using dynamic brownian bridge movement models. Metabolic rates were estimated using bioenergetic equations. For bioenergetic equations, production was estimated based on von Bertalanffy growth curve established for lemon sharks, expenditure was estimated using published algorithms relating body acceleration to oxygen consumption rates in lemon sharks, and excretion was assumed to equal 27% of field metabolic rate.
