Clinical and molecular characterization indicates activation of the Wnt B-catenin pathway in naturally occurring breast cancer in rhesus macaques

Naturally occurring breast cancer (BC) is the second most frequent cancer in rhesus macaques and arises in a closely comparable tissue microenvironment and immune system as human BC, yet only limited numbers of clinical case reports and no knowledge about the molecular background is available. Expanding our understanding of breast carcinogenesis in rhesus macaques would foster improved veterinary care, provide a resource to potentially delineate cancer weak spots for novel therapies, and increase this model's translatability for studies on human cancer immunotherapies.
