Caribbean: impact of COVID-19 in energy consumption 2019-2020, by sector

In 2020, energy consumption in the industrial sector in the Caribbean was forecast to amount to 10.1 million tons of oil equivalent (Mtoe), down from 11.1 Mtoe forecast pre-COVID-19. Nevertheless, the commercial sector was expected to be the most affected, with a 29 percent decrease in comparison to initial forecasts. Meanwhile, in the Caribbean residential sector, energy consumption was projected to reach 7.4 Mtoe, up from 5.9 Mtoe a year earlier.
