VPRS 19777 General Correspondence Files, Alphanumeric System

This series comprises inward and outward correspondence of the Hazelwood Power Corporation (VA 4075) and includes material acquired from the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (VA 1002) during privatisation. On 31 January 1995, Generation Victoria (VA 4078), the Victorian State body responsible for the generation of power to both Victorian and interstate customers between 1994 and 1995, was reviewed and restructured into five independent generating companies. Hazelwood Power Corporation Pty Ltd comprised the Hazelwood power station and the Morwell brown coal mine. Subjects documented in the correspondence include Generation Victoria's disaggregation, the proposed privatisation of the Hazelwood Power Corporation, the Morwell Open Cut Mine, and land rehabilitation. The files include legacy records dating back to 1954. Documents continued to be added to files beyond when Hazelwood Power Corporation was privatised in 1996. Prior to transfer to PROV the records were held by ENGIE Hazelwood, the majority owner of the power station at the time of its closure in 2017. Since privatisation, Hazelwood Power has gone through many iterations, eventually becoming ENGIE Hazelwood in 2015.
