Viral communities from a Canadian thermokarst lake

The study describes the viral communities from a thermokarst lake located in Nunavik (Canada) near the Whapnagoostui-Kuujjuarapik communities. Water samples were taken at various depth in the water-column across three years (summer and winter). From the resulting viral assemblages, we identified two distinct communities: a more variable annual community found at the surface during the summer and a perennial community found in the anoxic water layer. The sequences deposited here were obtained from pre-filtered water in order to remove most of the cellular fraction and are therefore enriched in viral particles.
