SANS with polarization analysis on magnetic nanoparticles embedded in a polymer matrix

Magnetic nanoparticles have received intense interest from researchers due to applications in biomedicine and information storage. This interest has recently translated into demand for SANS with polarization analysis to understand the complex magnetization profiles that arise within nanoparticles. Recent effort on the KWS-1 SANS beamline at MLZ in Garching, Germany has been made to optimize polarization analysis experiments using polarized 3He neutron spin filters. We propose to perform measurements on the ZOOM beamline using our fully characterized 3He cells in order to achieve two aims. The first is to aid with the development of PA using 3He cells on pulsed beamlines. The second is to optimize a sample preparation method for dispersions of magnetic nanoparticles to disentangle magnetic scattering profiles that arise due to intraparticle and interparticle magnetizations.
