This dataset comprehensively describes the distribution status and the distribution patterns of horizontal and vertical zonality of 796 vegetation units (formations and subformations) falling under 11 vegetation type groups and 54 vegetation types across China. It also reflects the actual distribution of more than 2,000 plant dominant species, major crops and cash crops in China, as well as the close correlations between these dominant species and soil and surface geology.
