This is a book of NSW Government Railways Departmental Consignment Notes relating to the freight of various goods to and from the Rothbury Colliery during its operation by the State. It has been retained as a sample of these records.Most of the dockets in the book are blank; only the first 48 are used. The consignment notes are in triplicate with only the bottom carbon copy kept for the used notes. The top note was forwarded by the Station Master to the Comptroller of Accounts and Audit and the second (carbon) copy retained by the consignor.As well as a description of the goods being forwarded, the consignment notes record: date, stations from and to, department received from, intended recipient agency or company, and department to be charged.
