The aim of this study was to characterize the mid-gut and gill microbiota of two distinctive lines of rainbow trout that have been selectively bred for enhanced resistance and susceptibility to the pathogen Flavobacterium psychrophilum, respectively. This pathogen is the agent of Bacterial Cold Water Disease, attributing to significant economical losses in the trout farming industry. As the commensal microbiota is deeply intertwined with the host immune system, comparing the microbial composition of these two lines gives insights into what mechanism(s) contribute to disease resistance.
