VPRS 984 Memorandum Book

This series is a record of memoranda and minutes recorded on correspondence sent or referred to the Department of Public Works. Included are the texts of telegrams received and sent.The first section of Unit 1 is marked as being the Minute Book Gold Fields Water Supply Charles Taylor Superintendent Engineer. Included are summaries of letters and telegrams and minutes appended to correspondence relating to the development of water supply systems for goldfield areas in Victoria.From late 1862 contents are more closely related to general matters to do with the functions of the Public Works Department. Minutes and memoranda are primarily concerned with requisitions, approvals for requisitions and requests and approvals for payments.It was by the means of such Memoranda Books that Departments were able to preserve a record of such correspondence as telegrams and brief memoranda and the minutes appended to correspondence which was then forwarded onward or returned to the correspondent.
