Metagenomic profiling of floodplain wetlands for ecosystem health monitoring (FREM/20-23/17)

In this research we have used Illumina NGS for sediment metagenome analysis Sardar Bherry, situated in the East Kolkata floodplain wetland, India, as the model ecosystem to investigate the functionality of constructed wetlands receiving urban wastewater.Hence, our goals were: (i) to determine the spatial succession of the microbial community across wetland from the input site (sewage) to the output site (natural waterways); (ii) explore the environmental factors that drive variations in microbial community composition; (iii) understand the microbial role to the health of the waterways and aquatic life forms within the constructed wetland.
