GIM-1 has been identified in different bacterial host species nearly exclusivley in Western Germany. In this study, the regional dissemination of GIM-1-postive Serratia marcescens is investigated. Thirteen S. marcescens strains from 10 patients of 6 different hospitals were genome sequenced and phylogenetically investigated. The most recent common ancestor of the clonal strain complex was estimated to have emerged in 1993 and might have already haboured the blaGIM-1 at that time.
