Genetic variation is passed to the next generation through sexual propagules or gametes. Here, inheritance patterns of de novo mutations were investigated in Marasmius oreades through the sexual cycle. Fruiting bodies were dissected, and tissues, including spore prints, were sequenced separately and mutations were identified. Patterns of shared and unique mutations were traced. Note: Two samples were mislabeled during sequencing: 43N21.2s and 43N21.2l. The raw reads were submitted directly as they were received from the sequencing facility, so the label swap has not been amended here. Confirmation of the mislabeling was done with Sanger sequencing of new DNA extractions from the original fruiting body and the data can be accessed through FigShare (see publication for the DOI).
