本册志书分为盾皮类导言和对盾皮类在我国所发现属、种的系统记述。导言中简述了盾皮类的分类及各主要类群的形态特征与地史、地理分布，总结了中国盾皮类化石研究历史，并附有插图。系统记述部分记述了截止至2018年5月在中国发现并已发表的盾皮类化石，包括胴甲鱼目、节甲鱼目、瓣甲鱼目和全颌鱼类等，共29科72属99种，并附有化石照片及插图。每个属、种均有鉴别特征、产地与层位。在科级以上的阶元中并有概述，对该阶元当前的研究现状、存在问题等做了综述。在大多数阶元的记述之后有一评注，为编者在编写过程中对发现的问题或编者对该阶元新认识的阐述。 本书是我国凡涉及地学、生物学、考古学的大专院校、科研机构、博物馆的专业人员及业余古生物爱好者的基础参考书，也可为科普创作提供必要的基础参考资料。
This volume is divided into two parts: an introduction to placoderms and a systematic account of the genera and species of placoderms discovered in China. The introduction briefly outlines the classification of placoderms, the morphological characteristics, geological history and geographic distribution of each major group, summarizes the research history of placoderm fossils in China, and is accompanied by illustrations. The systematic account section documents all published placoderm fossils discovered in China as of May 2018, including Antiarchi, Arthrodira, Petalichthyida, and gnathostomes, among others, totaling 29 families, 72 genera and 99 species, and is accompanied by fossil photographs and illustrations. Each genus and species includes diagnostic features, collecting localities and stratigraphic horizons. An overview is provided for taxa above the family taxonomic rank, summarizing the current research status and unresolved issues of these taxa. A commentary is added after the account of most taxa, which elaborates on the problems encountered during compilation or the editors' new insights into the relevant taxa. This book is a foundational reference work for professionals and amateur paleontological enthusiasts from colleges and universities, research institutions and museums engaged in geoscience, biology and archaeology, and can also provide necessary basic reference materials for science popularization creation.
