We were able to obtain several M. smegmatis mutants resistant to a tryptanthrin derivative, based on M. smegmatis mc2 155 (w.t.) and M. smegmatis dmmp5 strains. M. smegmatis dmmp5 is a strain with a 2828 b.p. deletion in mmpS5-mmpL5 operon, hypersensitive to compounds subjected to MmpS5-MmpL5-mediated efflux. The project aims to identify M. smegmatis drug resistance mechanisms to tryptanthrins.
