Coastal development suppresses recruitment of coral reef fishes by altering mangrove-associated odor cues

The goal of this study was to understand if/how development along coastlines impacts fish recruitment via impacts on olfactory cues associated with mangrove leaves. The response of juvenile fish to mangrove leaves collected from developed and undeveloped coastlines were examined. Heavy metal concentrations and microbial community analyses were also performed to help explain differences in the olfactory cues between the two treatments.
