Rhodococcus equi (R. equi) is a Gram-positive human-animal pathogen that is an important factor in the pathogenesis and mortality of foals. In this study, we present the complete genome sequence of R. equi strain BJ13 isolated from a British thoroughbred racehorse breeding farm in Beijing, China. BJ13 Genome Size 5.30Mb, including a complete chromosome and a plasmid with Chromosome Length 5.22Mb and PlasmidA Length 0.08Mb. The analysis of removable elements predicted 6 genomic islands, 1 prephage gene, 418 virulence factors VFs and 225 resistance genes by pathogenic system analysis, and 297 secreted proteins by secretory system analysis, 1106 transmembrane proteins. R. equi strains exhibited genomic features, virulence-associated genes, potential drug resistance and virulence plasmid structure that may facilitate the evolution of their pathogenesis. Our study provides a high-quality reference genome for R. equi BJ13, including analysis of mobile genetic elements, pathogenic systems and secretion systems, which will facilitate the targeting of future therapeutic targets and vaccine development in R. equi.
