Nine centuries of floods in the Moselle river basin (12th–21st centuries): The documentary database on floods

The data correspond to the article “Neuf siècles d’inondations dans le bassin versant de la Moselle (XIIe–XXIe siècles) : la base de données documentaires sur les inondations” (“Nine centuries of floods in the Moselle river basin (12th–21st centuries): The documentary database on floods”). This dataset brings together 947 documentary sources reporting hydrological information related to floods in the Moselle River and its tributaries. The database was compiled as part of the “XXXXX” research project, which aims to reconstruct a chronology of floods and droughts in the Moselle basin since the High Middle Ages, using instrumental, documentary, and sedimentary archives. It is a multidisciplinary project involving geographers, hydrologists, historians, and geochemists. Flood events are classified according to an intensity index ranging from 0 to 3.
