Ecology Lab 3 - Distance Based Data-set - Frequency of Birds

The purpose of this field observation was to determine the abundance and distribution of birds over a geographic area. We collected the data in the grassland outside of Saywell Woodlot on September 30th, 2015.<br><br>To measure the abundance of the various bird species in the grassland, we layed 4 transects (east to west) through an approximately 100 square meter area. Each trial was seperated by approximately 25 meters north to south. <br><br>We collected data by walking along each transect and recording the bird species identification and frequency as well as the approximate distance from the transect upon identification. We then approximated the windspeed by attributing a beaufort number to the conditions present. Each transect trial was recorded separated by trial number to ensure consistency in each set.
