VPRS 13069 Tramway Publications

This is an artificial series of publications devoted to the subject of tramways. By the late 1990s, they were part of the collection of the Public Transport Corporation's library. They were transferred to the Public Record Office Victoria in 2000. Much of the material appears to have been collected by two of the Public Transport Corporation's previous agencies, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (VA 1044) and the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (VA 2694). The P1 consignment comprises publications devoted to international and local tramway systems, trams and light rail technology ranging from 1949 to 1993. It includes issues of the Modern Tramway, (the official organ of Britain's Light Railway Transport League) and subsequent incarnations (The Modern Tramway and Light Rail Review, Modern Tramway and Rapid Transit Review, Modern Tramway and Light Rapid Transit and Modern Tramway and Light Rail Transit) from 1949 to 1987. The consignment also includes Tramway Topics - Tramway Journal of New Zealand ranging from 1989-1990 as well as the official organ of the trade union representing Victoria's tramways employees: Tramway Record - Organ of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Tramway and Motor Omnibus Employees' Association, ranging from 1962-1992.
